Summer has arrived at Calverton and we are hoping that good rains come soon. We had a huge electrical storm last night with 26mm of rain so that is a good start. The river is still running well and the weirs are spilling over. The river/weirs are well stocked with trout and the fishing is reportedly very good. The last 80 trout we stocked weighed in at approximately 1 kg each.  Foot paths have been built all around the weirs at Sherbrook which has made fishing so much easier.  Rock pool weir at the top of the Estate is very popular and allows the fisherman complete solitude.

Even though we have just been through winter the Estate is looking lush and green and the Ou Hout trees are in full bloom, along with the spring flowers along the river. Actually the Estate is green most of the year which is attributed to the mist that rolls in on numerous occasions.

The river walk is very well manicured and there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the sound of running water and happy birds, the red winged starlings have returned along with the weavers who are busy building their nests. Calverton is blessed to have an abundance of bird life.

The frogs are now in full symphony another indication of pending rains.

Now that it is warmer the children will be able to enjoy swimming at Myrsine Africana weir – we do not stock trout in this weir. The parents can sit on the log and soak in the ambiance or sun bathe on the rocks. The picnic spot is an ideal place to have lunch or an evening cocktail.

The water fall at the entrance (Pic above) should start flowing soon a welcoming sound as you enter Calverton Estate.

Many of our guests enjoy mountain biking in and around the Estate and of course the children enjoy riding on the roads of Calverton.

A paved parking area has been built at Glentana, enabling plenty of extra parking space for cars and trailers.
